The origins of the urban co-operative banking movement in India can be traced to the close of nineteenth century when, inspired by the success of the experiments related to the co-operative by movement in Britain and the co-operative credit movement in Germany such societies were setup in India. Co-operative societies are based on the principles of co-operation mutual help democratic decision making and open membership.
Initially the bank started as a Credit co-operative Society in the year 1916 and registered under No. **** dated 30th March, 1916 in the name as “ City Co-Operative Society “ Anantpur District Andra Pradesh. Converted as Urban Co-operative Bank in the year 1958.
The bank began with 22 members, mobilised with Share capital of Rs.***/-. After conversion as a Bank, as at the year end of 1971, bank mobilised Rs. *** lakh of share capital with **** members and also mobilized Deposits of Rs. *** lakhs from which advanced Rs.**** lakhs and working fund of the bank was Rs. **** lakh. Today as on the year end of 31 March, 2021, the bank has 4635 members with share capital of Rs. 1.32 Cr, total Funds & Reserves of Rs. 2.58 Cr, total deposits of Rs. 47.69 Cr total loans of Rs. 30.27Cr, total investments of Rs. 11.03 Cr and total working fund of the bank is Rs. 51.61Cr The year by year progressive financial figures are as under since 1971.
